Late Summer at the Beaver Pond

Here's today plein air painting, done this morning at one of my favorite places to paint, a local beaver pond.

Again, I limited myself to one hour, and the challenge for this painting was to make sense of all that green! I choose this scene simply for that reason; I wanted to make the late summer greens appear to BE green while using different hues of blue, purples, yellows, and, of course green. It was difficult to keep it all melting into one big pot of GREEN, and also difficult to keep the background cooler and in the distant, and the foreground warmer and distinct from the distant trees and the farther mountain.

There's a hint of autumn starting to show in the willows!
