Back to painting horses. For reference on this one, I used a fabulous photo taken by western Colorado wildlife photographer John Wagner. John spends countless hours searching for, and photographing the wild mustangs of Sand Wash Basin in northwestern Colorado, and graciously gave me permission to paint from one of his photographs. This is a beautiful buckskin mustang stallion, warning an intruder to stay a distance away from one of his foals. The intruder is just out of the picture.....perhaps a curious bachelor stallion? This is oil on canvas, 20" x 24".

Hello Deb, Wonderful paintings of horses---Always love good ones of horses. Made me think, did you enter some mustangs paintings at Rock Springs last year? I understand there was a show to benefit the wild horses. Apainter from Carson City, Nevada went, entered, didn't say how he did, but did say he saw some of yours. How did you do at that show? I hope very well, are they posted on you blog? Just my thoughts today. Love western themed works and thanks for yours.

I had 4 paintings in the Rock Springs show last summer. I sent in 4 images on the theory that if you throw enough silly putty against the wall, something will stick! :) Imagine my surprise when they accepted all 4...it was the first time I had entered.
The pieces in last year's show were "For Hire", "His First Day", "Local Scenery", and "Ears Up". All are currently on my website except "Ears Up", which, frankly, I'm not wild about. I'm hoping to enter again this year...perhaps "The Protector" will be one of the entries. I didn't win anything, but I was just pleased to be accepted into such a great group of artists. I did go to Rock Springs for the show, and just had such a great time....met many wonderful art collectors and artists. Was very, very impressed with the quality of the show, and how the show was run. Looking forward to it again this year!
Gotta do some more horse paintings!
